There is something really odd about this band.
On youtube and later on spotify, one song that kept returning to my ‘feed’ was ‘Horse With No Name’…no idea why, never sought it out.
Then I started listening to the lyrics, and I found them beautiful. To me (opinions differ, as they do about the theory that it’s about drugs—which the band has always denied), it is a song about the pain we inflict on the Earth.About how we keep adding more stone to a living body.
Closing it off.
Taking away its breath.
''Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love''
So, the song is about love for Mother Earth. I think.
And then I found ‘Sister Golden Hair’, a love song that, to my ears, says: I'm sorry for being distant, but I love you very much.
Sweet, harmonious, perfect for singing along, which I happily do.
Then I came across ‘Rainy Day’…a sad love song…of a love song about sadness…
These are all on a playlist that is soothing to me, and it’s a favorite…I like softness for myself these days.
A few days ago, I decided to listen to the whole ‘America’ album, merrily biking along, the music perfect for a softly sunny day… until… ’Pigeon Song’.
What? What did you just sing?
What happened there guys?
Amused and utterly confused.
